1894 S Barber Dime

Augustus G. Heaton, a numismatist by hobby and a professional artist by trade, released his Treatise on Mint Marks in 1893. When a “CC” appeared at that period, it stood for Carson City, Nevada, where a mint was located and run from 1870 until 1893. The 1894-S dime, which was well-known in its day and is now regarded as one of the most well-known rarities in America has garnered a lot of interest lately. The San Francisco Mint produced twenty-four dimes. On June 9, 1894, two of these twenty-four were sent to the Mint director in Washington, D.C. as part of the special assay. There were now 22 coins remaining in total. As part of the yearly assay, a single 1894-S dime was sent to the Philadelphia Mint Superintendent on June 28th, 1894. There would have been a net of 21 coins once this coin was melted because of assay process. But as of now only 9 dimes have been seen.
